For most families buying a home in the Bay Area, the school district is the single most consequential decision input. Yet the available information is fragmented: GreatSchools ratings are only one slice, and the practical layer — feeder pattern, campus culture, neighborhood housing, family fit — typically takes years of local experience to assemble.
Bay Area School Guide, published by the MK Group team, exists to systematize that material into a single sourced reference. The goal is not to sell — it is to let any family making a school-driven home decision see the map clearly before deciding where on it to live.

This is not a ranking exercise. It is a continuously maintained reference. Every figure carries a source, an as-of date, and a scope.
Where the data comes from
School ratings from GreatSchools and Niche; enrollment and assessment data from the California Department of Education (CDE); home-price ranges from MLS and public market records. All sources are refreshed on a recurring cadence.
Editorial principles
Data is presented straight, not curated for ranking. Every entry is written by an editor with first-hand local experience and fact-checked against the underlying source. Where we make a judgment call, we say so.
How often the data refreshes
School-level reference data is updated once per academic year; surrounding home-price ranges are updated quarterly; new schools and new districts are added on a rolling basis. Every page carries an explicit last-updated timestamp.
